Greening Abu Dhabi. Urban proposals for Abu Dhabi Centre City. UAE

Greening Abu Dhabi is a research exercise carried out in partnership with CENER (Spanish National Centre for Renewable Energy) and Luis Vallejo Landscape Studio. The exercise tests the possibilities of the urban fabric of the Abu Dhabi CBD area, exploring the possibilities that it offers and suggesting how to solve the problems that it entails. The existing structure of the city is built-up of large super-blocks created by main avenues with chaotic interior spaces filled with open parking lots.

Our proposal aims to radicalize the existing structure, concentrating all traffic on the main avenues and freeing the interior of the super-blocks for pedestrian use only. With the creation of underground parking structures and street level boulevards and plazas, the insides of the blocks will become a neighbourhood realm just a few meters away from the capital realm.
